Decision on Gujarat plant to be taken by Maruti board on October

AHMEDABAD/NEW DELHI: Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India RC Bhargava said that the board is likely to take a decision on setting up a new manufacturing unit in Gujarat by end-October,.

"In the next two days, we will acquire more information to understand the risk factors of the probable sites. Only the board has the authority to take the decision," he told the reporters in Gandhinagar on Thursday after he and Suzuki Motor Corp president Osamu Suzuki met Chief Minister Narendra Modi at his residence.

Top automaker in the country, which faces labor unrest at its plant in Manesar, Gujarat for the second time in three months, said it needs another plant in India for its future needs. It would first install the automaker outside Haryana.

Suzuki shared that this was his first visit to Gujarat and the chief minister has assured all help to the company.

On Thursday, Maruti produced 340 units of Swift, its best-selling vehicle whose sales have dipped due to the standoff that entered its 11th day. Its Gurgaon facility rolled out 90 units while another 250 were manufactured at the Manesar plant.Vcommindia News
