Diesel vehicles to have the weight of Praful Patel

People who are arguing against additional tax on diesel vehicles managed and de-regulation of fuel prices on Wednesday received a shot in the arm with the support of none other than the Minister of Heavy Industries Praful
Patel.

He was addressing the annual conference of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers

(SIAM), where speaking in favour of continuation of diesel subsidy and promotion of diesel vehicles even as Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia argued for gradual de-regulation of diesel.

Government a year ago freed the prices of petrol a year ago, and petrol now costs R64 a liter while diesel, still subsidised, costs R41.

It was urged by Patel for policy support for diesel vehicles. “The automobile industry is moving towards diesel. Cleaner technologies are developed in diesel engines.”Vcommindia News
