Due to workers strike at Manesar Maruti Suzuki's Swift bookings run into trouble

NEW DELHI: The name is still fast, but the production of the new avatar of compact high-end best-selling Maruti Suzuki is proving to be anything but.

At a time when car sales are in the slow lane, India's No 1 car manufacturer has his hands full against a pent-up demand: a dead end of a week with workers at its plant in Manesar on the outskirts of Delhi forced to stop bookings for the new Swift, which broke the mark of 90,000 in two weeks since launch.

In past seven days till Sunday, only 500 cars, from the Manesar plant could rolled out and all were Swift, which should have produced some 8,400 cars in that period. On Monday--eighth day of the impasse--200 Swifts were produced.Vcommindia News
