Ford hikes Q4 output after tight supplies crimp sales gain

DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. is increasing fourth quarter production after inventory shortfalls cost it some small-car sales last month.

The automaker's August sales rose 11 percent from August 2010 to 174,800 units, the company said in a statement today.

Lincoln sales rose 25 percent to 8,006 in August on strong sales of the MKZ sedan and MKX crossover.

Ford brand sales rose 16 percent to 166,794.

But sales of new compact Ford Focus 2012 fell 9 percent to 14,093 in August mainly because of the inventory shortages. Party subcompact sales rose 76 percent for 5833, but could have been stronger with more actions, Ford executives said today. The Fiesta is still running at this time last year.Vcommindia News
