Narendra Modi set to drive Maruti into Gujarat after Tata Motors, Ford & Peugeot

NEW DELHI/AHMEDABAD: The new plant of Maruti can happen in Gujarat in strident unions force the company to consider moving out of Haryana for the first time in its 30 years history.
A team of officials led by Osamu Suzuki, chairman of Suzuki Motor Corp, Maruti Chairman RC Bhargava and MD S Nakanishi met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar on Thursday. The visit and discussions become significant in light of the second strike in three months in Manesar factory of the automaker, which has paralyzed operations and led to a fall in sales of its best-selling vehicle, the Swift.

The workers are on strike since August 29 when the company had asked workers to sign a good conduct bond at Manesar. The bookings for all the popular car has been stopped by the company as the production and sales of Swift have been badly affected.

As the strike and move Maruti is a huge boost for Gujarat and Modi government, who has lobbied with car manufacturers to invest in the state. Last month, the state attracted the French giant Peugeot to invest Rs 4000 crores in Sanand, which is fast becoming a main automotive hub for the country. Peugeot was also courted by Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Ford Motor is already set up a factory at Sanand.Vcommindia News
