SKYACTIV technology from Mazda will now be showcase just shortly now. The new CX5 crossover is the first example of the breed. According to Mazda, but developing an all new type of car in just two years was not easy Mazda began its work on their revolutionary SKYACTIV technology in 2006, but it wasn’t until 2009 that they had a ready technological platform to start building a car on. Their final product the Mazda CX5 is now ready to be launched. SKYACTIV technology from Mazda is an all new and very clever way of building faster, fun to drive, efficient and clean cars. As a result designing and building the CX5 around all those principles for the first time, in a span of just two years was a big challenge, says, Hideaki Tanaka, CX-5 Programme Manager.
Mazda cars to be introduced in future will be built around the SKYACTIV technology which meant deciding where all the fixed engineering points had to be and where the flexible engineering points could be. This posed a major challenge to the design teams as those points for building the CX5 had to be compatible for building the next generation Mazda6 and Mazda3 as they will come with the same architecture but will have different dimensions. The Mazda CX5 will replace the Mazda Tribute in markets where it will be sold.
The Mazda CX5 will hit markets in 2012 and Mazda expects it to play a key role in enhancing Mazda’s brand image while catering to customers who want to upgrade from their Mazda3. Tanaka was impressed with the drive dynamics of the car saying, “The ride and handling are very nice with significant advantage over its competitors.”
Judging by the technical reasoning of Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology, rest assured, Mazda will come up with a range of fast, economical, clean and fun to drive cars.
