However, there have been reports that Peugeot will also launch their first product for India – the 508 executive sedan – at the 2012 Auto Expo. The 508 comes with a variety of engine options in the global market viz. 1.6, 2.0 and 2.2-litre diesels and 1.6-litre petrol in various states of tune. Since Peugeot’s manufacturing plant in India is still not ready, its will bring in the 508 through the CBU route and start marketing the luxury car to build its brand image in India. The strategy seems quite similar to Nissan’s, where you plug-in high-end luxury CBUs to familiarise the brand name in the market and introduce the mass-market products later once the manufacturing facilities are it place.
We hope Peugeot learns from Nissan’s execution though and has a strong-enough dealership and service network before it rolls out its first small car.
