Skoda India is ready for the unveiling of the C+ segment with coming of all-new sedan that would manufacture in the same plant (Chakan, Pune) where Vento is also manufactured. It was imagined earlier that it would be sold as Rapid, then rumors were also there that it will be christened 'Lauretta' but at the end Skoda Auto India has again surprised everyone with the coming of the new entry level sedan that will be sold as 'Rapid' in India. Presently, there has been no official announcement made by the company about the price of its new sedan though expectation are there that Skoda Rapid will cost very competitively at Rs. 670000 for the base petrol variant and Rs. 790000 for the base diesel variant. Power is provided by petrol and diesel engine which are doing duty under the hood of Volkswagen Vento. Recently Skoda Auto changed the variant names of Fabia and Laura (Classic to Active and Ambiente to Ambition), expectations are there for Rapid to be there while new variant names when it will be launched. Skoda Fabia and Volkswagen Vento will give design cues to Skoda Rapid, it was expected that it will be based on the MissionL design concept showcased the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, Skoda Auto has kept the design very basic and familiar to keep the costs down. It will compete with the likes of Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, New Hyundai Verna, New Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Aveo, Fiat Linea and Tata Indigo Manza.
