More brands to be launched by Italian two wheeler makers Piaggio in India after re-launching Vespa scooters in March. Europe’s largest two wheeler maker re-introduced Vespa scooters in the country, without a tie up with a local partner, after 12 years at Delhi Auto Expo 2012.
It is the plan of the company in the long run company to make Piaggio scooters and Moto Guzzi motorcycles available to the Indian markets. The global brands of the Italian two-wheeler maker Piaggio include Aprilia, Laverda, Vespa, Moto Guzzi, Piaggio, Gilera and Derbi.
“We are doing a comprehensive and exhaustive research in India as to what could be the product line for the next few years,” Piaggio Vehicles India MD Ravi Chopra said. “We will be clear about what should be the road map for Piaggio in India in the next few months,” he said. The findings of the study are likely to be completed by March.
While Vespa will be positioned in the premium segment, with 20-25% higher price tags than Honda or Suzuki scooters, the Italian company may bring in Piaggio branded scooters in the mass market.
The immediate focus of Piaggio as of now is Vespa but sources reveal that the firm plans to enter the executive and premium segments which is that of 110-250 cc wearing a price of 50,000-1,50,000. It also has plans of rolling out Moto Guzzi in the big premium luxury motorcycles segment.
