Again Ertiga MPV spotted

It is well known that Maruti’s foray into the MPV segment will be through the Maruti Ertiga MPV. Maruti India’s aggressive testing on the new MPV gives us a note that how focused the auto major is to see the success of this MPV, that has been spotted again and that too uncamouflaged. It is good for us as this is when we get to catch a glimpse to squeeze out all the juicy details for the sake of gossiping at least. Getting down to the point, the Maruti Ertiga MPV is way different from the Maruti’s existing utility vehicle line-up , the Maruti Gypsy overriding its outdated cheap look and getting the price right for what was the point of concern with Maruti Grand Vitara. The Maruti Ertiga price is expected to be in the range of Rs 5 – Rs 9 lakh to compete against the undeterred Toyota Innova in the MPV segment.

The 1.4 L petrol engine for the Maruti Ertiga is something new the auto major has conjured up for its new MPV generating a peak power of 95 Bhp. The 1.3 L diesel engine is however what we have been seeing in the Maruti Swift and Maruti SX4 sedan, but tuned to deliver 90 Bhp peak power as in the SX4 sedan.  A good look at the interiors of the car tells us how thoughtful the auto major has been. Maruti Ertiga as a standard is offered with a sitting arrangement for seven passengers while the top end variant is sufficed with accommodation for just six passengers. However, the rear seats can be folded to squeeze out extra space for baggage which otherwise makes it totally unimaginable with the lack of boot space. While Maruti India thought the 2012 Mahindra Xylo MPV and the new Toyota Innova are the only competitors in the segment, Hyundai seems to join the league.
