NEW DELHI: Peugeot, a French car manufacturer, is mulling to roll out locally assembled car for India by 2014. The firm is going to start importing a range of models in completely built units (CBU) format in the country by the end of next year.
Frederic Fabre, MD of PCA Motors India, said, “We will start with CBUs next year and then follow it up with Peugeot 508, which will be locally assembled and then go to different segments, starting from C-segment (sedan) and then later B-segment.”
The auto maker could also import the 508 model before the local assembly starts depending on the demand. In September last year, Peugeot had forayed into a pact with the Gujarat government to establish a production unit with an investment of Rs 4,000 crore in Sanand.
The unit will be having a capacity of 170,000 units. It has displayed a range of cars - Peugeot 508, Peugeot 3008, Peugeot 3008 Hybrid and its concept RCZ Sports Coupe - at the 11th Auto Expo 2012 here.
Mr Fabre has stated that the firm will aim at big cities in regard to the dealerships. The French car maker has been present in India via a joint venture with Premier Automobiles almost a decade ago.
