With the launch of city bus and coaches Volvo doubles its range in India

Volvo-bus
Recently a new series of city bus and coaches is launched by Volvo, thus taking the company's bus range to 10 different models in India. The three new vehicles launched are the Volvo 9400PX, 9100 and 7400XL.

As a part of its safety initiative, Volvo has now introduced frontal impact protection (FIP) and front under-run protection (FUP) in all it coaches. As per tests, the former reduces the risk of serious personal injury while the latter minimizes the risk of injury in the case of a frontal collision between buses and cars.

The Volvo 9400PX at 14.5m is the longest intercity coach in India as claimed by Volvo. Its global launch starts from India. This coach carries an engine with capacity of 11-litre producing 375PS power which is mated to an automatic I-shift gearbox. The Volvo 9400PX is fitted with a steerable tag-axle which is said to enhance maneuverability and provide better on-road dynamics.

The 7400XL at 14.5m is based on Volvo’s 7400 bus and boasts of an improvement in seating capacity by 55 per cent. Volvo will be showing their 7700 hybrid at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi.

Hakan Karlsson, president for Volvo Bus Corporation, said, "About three months ago we had promised that we will play a bigger role in the progress of the Indian bus industry and announced an investment of Rs 400 crore."

Now, we stand here with a product range that will take us there. Most importantly, our focus remains to drive quality of life and with our current range we will be spreading the Volvo experience to a larger market in the country."
