Celebrating 10th year Anniversary of 'Gulf Foster A Child Car Drive' on February 12

That time of the year is here again when motor sports enthusiasts get a chance to combine the excitement of rally driving with a most- worthy social clause. This Sunday, it is time for Gulf Foster A Child Car Drive, the annual Gulf Oil Corporation- sponsored event which will be flagged off on February 12, 2012 from Our Lady’s Home, Parel, Mumbai and wind up at Dukes Retreat & Key Resorts, Khandala with arrangement of lot of Fun and Joy for the little ones.

Going by the overwhelming response last year, Shrikant Karani of Sportscraft, the organizers of the event is hopeful of receiving a flood of entries this year as well out of which only 60 entries will be selected. The uniqueness of the event is the presence of about 50 - 60 lesser privileged kids from Mumbai’s orphanages, who would join families in their cars for the Rally. The event is meant to be for any individual with a valid driving license. They can participate but additionally each car’s crew will be made up of a driver, navigator and minimum one child plus one lesser privileged child allotted by the organizers. This year children - boys from Our Lady’s Home, Parel and girls from Shraddhanand Mahilashram at Matunga will be taken by Gulf Oil. This is the 10th year consecutively that Gulf Oil had been sponsoring this event.

The car drive provides a unique platform for families to foster these lesser privileged angels & to bond & enjoy the day with them as one family. This event helps to widen the horizons of the children, some of whom have never traveled in a car & also be with a family. They get to experience different things and interact with people from different walks of life and overall come back happy with the experience." This is an initiative of Gulf Oil as an important part of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

The event has another unique aspect that participants will be handed over route charts one minute before their flag off time. This route charts enables them to follow the route - set by the organizers - from start to finish and the participants will have to provide the right answers to the questions posed for the drive will be broken up by certain pit stops along the route. At these pit stops every participant will be asked a question. On the basis of the correct answers and duration of the event, the winner will be chosen.

The event involves no speed or no racing. It is only about steadfastly and effectively following the tulip chart and checking in at various control points. So, come in at your Sunday best for there is a special prize which involves a Trophy & Medal for the best team – Winner of the day, Trophy & Medal for winner of All Ladies Team and Trophy for the best decorated car based on the theme given. The theme for this year would be – Don’t Drink & Drive, Global Warming, Malnutrition and Cancer. The total distance covered in the drive is about 120 km.Automobile News
