Luxury taxi segment has Toyota Etios as a part

The car maker from Japan, Toyota had introduced its sedan Etios last year. Toyota Etiosis now establishing its dominance in the luxury cab sector in major Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Bangalore. As stated by the assistant MD of the company, Mr Sandeep Singh, this step is in synchronization with the company's premium brand planning and this change will be a key factor in enabling the Toyota Etios strengthening its hold in the market. Thus promoting the Etios as a luxury taxi is an important aspect of the company's plan.

According to the reports, the Toyota Etios sedan is a new entrant in the new 'TAB' fleet was unveiled in the beginning of this month in Mumbai by the SMS Infrastructure which is a company from Nagpur. Presently the luxury taxi market in Mumbai is dominated by the Meru brand's cabs and Etios has been introduced as a competitor. Close to more than 600 Toyota Etios, red and white in color, the company already has dispatched and around 400 more are ready to be delivered. From the rising demand taking cue for luxury taxies the demand for the Etios is expected to increase further. The Etios similarly in Delhi is growing in popularity and could match a demand equivalent to that in Mumbai in the near future. On the other hand, demand in Banglore and Ahmedabad is also rising but at comparatively smaller rates. 

In cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad, where the airports are very far from the city, for such a luxury taxi the demand is bound to increase in times to come. On this opportunity Mahindra & Mahindra was one such company which pounced with the launch of its Logan, which is now known as Verito. As known through reports, the taxies in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Delhi run on CNG whereas in other metros diesel is used. Even efforts are being made to make CNG available across all major cities as it is cheaper and causes less pollution. This is able to get accomplished with the help of companies like RIL and GAIL. In the past few years, the whole traveling scenario has been changed by the high end cabs and they have saved people from the troublesome traveling of crowded buses and other such inconvenient modes. Meru has been one of the biggest players in this field. Other prominent companies in this segment are Easy, Mega and SMS Infrastructure.
