Audi finally presented its A3 at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show on 6th March, 2012. The company has developed this car on the MQB platform, which was earlier used for manufacturing Audi Q3. On the front section of this car Single-frame radiator grille finds its place, which also has LED daytime running lamps and Xenon headlamps. Tail lamps of the car also have diffuser insert and are also fitted with LED. Along with 'big car' technology, the new hatchback features premium interiors.
The luxury car maker has provided 1.4 litre, 1.8 litre, and 2.0 litre TDI engines in the 2012 Audi A3, which delivers an output of 120 hp, 180 hp and 143 hp, respectively. The 7-speed dual clutch transmission is fitted with the 1.8-litre TFSI engine on other hand a 6-speed manual gearbox will be added in the models running on the other two engines. The company also disclosed that variant with all-wheel drive system and 1.4 litre TFSI engine will be available by the end of this year. Irrespective of the engine options, power will be sent to the front wheels of the vehicle. McPherson strut is provided for the front section, whereas the rear end has multi-link suspension.
The 1.4 TFSI variant of A3 weights 1,175 kg and the company claims to have reduced its weight by 80kg. In order to lessen the weight of the vehicle, the car maker has made maximum use of aluminium for the bonnet and front wings. MMI navigation in addition to the system with a touchpad is the main highlight of the interiors.
Other advanced features of the car include park assist, radar-assisted adaptive cruise control, traffic sign detection, pre sense safety system and active lane assist. However, A3 specific Bang & Olufsen audio system has been kept as an optional feature. Against the 350 litre boot space of the previous model, new Audi A3 has offers 365 litres of space in the rear.
