Chrysler said the Durango Special Service will be available for police, fire and "general fleet" customers, with delivery expected to begin in the second quarter of this year.
"We're incredibly excited to add the Dodge Durango Special Service to our lineup of law-enforcement vehicles," Peter Grady, Chrysler Group vice president of network development and fleet operations, said in a statement.
The SUV will be available with either a Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine or a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine, and comes with upgraded brakes, a heavy-duty battery, a 220-amp alternator, a heavy-duty water pump and an engine-oil cooler to help keep things cool while officers sit in the median and use radar guns to check motorists' speeds.
Chrysler said the Durango will have a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty that is fully transferable.
It will join the Ford Taurus, the Chevrolet Impala, Caprice and Tahoe, and the Ram and the Dodge Charger as the nation's primary law enforcement vehicles.Automobile News
