Michelin, the world’s leading automotive tyre manufacturer has announced the launch of its latest passenger car tyre, the MICHELIN ENERGY™XM2, a new design dedicated to improving fuel saving, mileage and safety. In a country like India where traffic is very heavy, road networks are either under construction or needing repair, and distances are long between the city and the countryside, on Michelin innovation drivers can rely to give them a tyre that provides them the benefits of strength, longevity, fuel savings and safety – all in one tyre. Specifically it is designed for compact and mid-sized passenger, MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 targets the mass market, a quick growth segment that requires the highest level of safety for the lowest total cost of ownership.
Compared to a previous generation Michelin Energy tyre, the new MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 uses less fuel thanks to an 8 percent reduction in rolling resistance, lasts up to 15 percent longer (fewer tyre replacements), and stops 1.7m shorter. With the added robustness of the new MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2, users will be guaranteed a true Balance of Performance for Indian roads and conditions of use.
Speaking at the launch, Thom Clark, Managing Director, Michelin India, said “India is becoming increasingly mobile and vehicle parks are swelling through first-time car purchases, expected to grow CAGR of 62 percent in next 5 years. India is a significant market for the MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 as it is aimed at the compact and lower-mid size passenger car segment, which represents the majority of the car market in India. The new MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 is the most recent tangible illustration of the performance balance that is the hallmark of all our tyres. The strength of the new MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 lies in the fact that it delivers three benefits – mileage, safety and fuel saving – at the same time, without compromising on any other performance benefit – what we call the balance of performance.” At Michelin, our objective is to bring advanced and relevant technologies to India for better on-road performance,” he added.
The company says that the new MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 incorporates IRONFLEX technology for a unique combination of strength and flexibility. Coupled with an optimized casing design, latest tyre is better able to absorb and effectively dissipate peak stresses generated when it comes into contact with any type of road hazard. The new formulation of micro resilient tread compound provides a firm grip along the road surface that helps to reduce the braking distance and thus contributes to reducing accidents and improving safety. This tread compound also lasts longer giving more mileage potential. To provide innovations as part of Michelin’s commitment that give relevant solutions to its consumers, the Michelin Energy XM2 tyre was put to two separate tests on the roads of New Delhi & Mumbai. Held over a period of 4 months, latest Michelin Energy XM2 was tested against a previous generation Michelin Energy tyre as well as leading competitor brands. Clearly, the findings showed that the new technology introduced in the Michelin Energy XM2 dramatically improved its longevity on the roads. It gives 28% more mileage than a leading competitor. The new MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 will be available in sizes ranging from 12 to 15 inches prices ranging from Rs. 2475 up to Rs. 6075.Automobile News
