Audi India to set up assembly line at Aurangabad for Q7 & Q3 SUVs to take on rivals BMW, Mercedes Benz

Audi-india
MUMBAI: German premium car major Audi India will set up a new assembly line in Maharashtra for its sports utility vehicles to take on rivals BMW and Mercedes Benz.

By the end of this year the new assembly line in Aurangabad will start the production of Q7 and Q3 SUVs , ramping up Audi's capacity to 8,000 units, a senior executive said.

"Q3 will be our bread and butter and the key product which will drive our growth in 2012," said Micheal Perschke, head, Audi India. "We will bring in one game changing model every year for the next few years."

Perschke said the focus is on expanding reach and portfolio of Audi, which sold 80% more cars in India last year.

The Q3 is likely to be priced in the 25-30 lakh range. It will challenge the dominance of BMW's X1 and Mini Countryman and Mercedes' B Class. The company is also considering bringing its smaller sedan, A3, creating a new entry level for itself.

The launch of TT model is likely in the plan of the companyl in the first quarter. This will be followed by the new A4, considered a volume puller for Audi. It has also lined up the S6 and three other models for launch this year.

Audi plans to expand its reach by entering smaller cities like Nagpur, Bhopal, Lucknow and Goa.Automobile News
