Recently Mr Tomar Ernberg, Managing Director of Volvo India, announced that the company is planning to introduce a new car in the compact car segment in the beginning of the year 2013. It is expected from the latest small car is expected to be the Volvo V40 which will be displayed for the first time at the Geneva Auto show. The preview of Volvo V40has been done by a popular car magazine unlike other cars which are heavily promoted by their makers. The Volvo V40 will be replacing the S40 and S50 station wagon. It is found to be premium 5 door compact models and has design features and looks quite similar to the stylish Volvo S60.
The notable features of the V40 are a hexagon shaped grille, swept back headlights, a risen belt line and flowing rear portion. The hatch of the car is made of glass, giving it an up market air. The Volvo V40 will be around 177 inches long and is derived from most of the Volvo's cars to be launched new scalable platform architecture that will be now used in the times to come. A modular 2 liter Volvo Environmental Architecture engine with 4 cylinders will be powering the V40. With similar features the other models as that of the V40 will be a X1 sized crossover and a replacement for the Volvo S40.
If the company plans to launch the Volvo V40 in India, they will bring it as a CBU and will pitch against the likes of Mini cooper and the upcoming Mercedes Benz B Class which had a recent launch. Due to the high importance given by the company to the Indian car market, it may price the hatch aggressively as compared to the recently launched Mini. It needs to be seen what kind of response it receives from the buyers.
